Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso
Perched on the cliff overlooking the lake, the Sanctuary is a complex of buildings recently restored and visited.
According to legend, it was born as a hermitage by the blessed Alberto Besozzi who, miraculously landed on these rocks for a storm, retired there after a solemn vow to Saint Catherine patroness of mariners.
Inside there are important frescoes painted from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century.
The Santa Caterina area is easily accessible by lake from the boats of the Navigazione Lago Maggiore.
The Hotel Riva is located just 970 meters from the Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso.
From the Hotel it is possible to reach the Hermitage in less than 15 minutes on foot or 4 minutes by car.
